The frame of an above ground pool can be recessed into the ground in order to approximate the look of an in-ground pool. Considerations for doing this are as follows:
Dirt: Frog Built, Inc. does not remove or haul any of the excavated dirt from the pool site. Shuttling and leveling the dirt will cost significantly more.
Underground Utilities: Frog Built, Inc is not responsible for damage to underground utility lines or septic systems. It is the Homeowner’s responsibility to locate utility lines by calling: 1-800-432-4770 and move any lines in conflict.
Water: If water fills the bottom of the hole due to rain or ground water table conditions, installation must be postponed. This can sometimes delay the installation for months. The months of July and August are the wettest.
Barrier Requirements: Florida law requires that a 4’ safety barrier surround any pool. The homeowner will have additional expenses for fencing and door/window alarms.
Backfilling: Above ground pools are not designed to be in the ground. Complications arise from this when backfill dirt is placed against the wall outside of the pool. The pool can usually support this dirt when it is full of water, however; it may collapse when empty. The deeper the frame drop and the more dirt that is backfilled, the more potential for collapse. Draining the pool may be necessary in the event of warrantee work or an eventual liner replacement.
To minimize these complications:
Wait to backfill at least 10 to 14 days after installation to allow for settling.
Don’t backfill or backfill minimally. Then cover the trench surrounding the pool with a wooden deck.
Built a retaining wall around the pool.
Backfill with a Portland Cement/ sand mix.
